COMMON NAMES IN AWANU JUKUN SPEAKING PEOPLE

A conference of Anthropologists, philologists and sociologists and linguists can  give some wonderful and meaningful contributions to this great debate. This is because, they are very skilful in the affairs of the people and the society.

 

The world ever, in Africa; way back home Nigeria, the Jukun tribe and of Awanu extraction in particular, names giving or naming are done in accordance with time, circumstance, events, occasions, providence, immortality, etc surrounding the birth of a person. These names speak for the situations why they are given. These names sometimes bring good fortunes and or misfortunes to the bearers. So names giving should be done with care, in view of their negative. Implications, on persons who carry them.

 

Find below the list of some common names in Awanu Jukun speaking people. This is a studious exercise paying attention to both sexes i.e male and female. In this wise, the table has been divided into masculine and feminine. Some of these names are even unisex; and may have the same meanings.

 

Interestingly, most Awanu names begin with ‘A’. this of course will facilitate easy pronunciations and callings. This research work has been able to exclude names that are not of Awanu origin. Note it that the list is not exhaustive, any further research can be done ahead of this tabulation.
